Tailor-made or custom safari tours are where you decide where you want to go, who comes with you, where you want to stay and for how long. This flexibility allows you to have a safari that is as hectic or relaxing as you choose and to stay longer with the wildlife you want to view.
Each Safari’s price depends upon the transport type(s), duration, time of year, accommodation, parks / locations visited and the number of people involved.
For example, in Kenya you can decide whether to travel by minibus, which is the most popular, or by 4x4 Land Cruiser/Land Rover. Both types of vehicle hold the same number of people, but the minibus has a lower associated cost.
Whilst a minibus can go most places (you’d be surprised by where they do go!), in some areas a 4x4 is essential, such as the swamp area of the Maasai Mara or in the wilderness areas of Tsavo.
In Tanzania a 4x4 is the norm, as you cannot enter the Ngorongoro Crater without one.
If you fly between parks, the norm is to use the 4x4 vehicles belonging to the lodge or camp you are staying at. Unfortunately, for small groups or individuals, this means that you are likely to share a vehicle with others for game drives. Some lodges/camps allow you to have a private vehicle, but at a premium. Depending upon your length of stay, you can be met by a vehicle of your own, which you can use for game drives, but some fly-in lodges/camps do not allow this.
You can use one or more of the example itineraries in the Kenya and Tanzania pages as a template to help design your safari. The park/area information accessible from the buttons on the pages can also help you decide where you want to go and what you want to do.
We, at Magical Sights Safaris, can also help you make your choices, or provide recommendations, as we have been to most areas in different seasons, and more importantly, if we aren’t sure, we will get the information for you direct from the driver/guides who visit the locations regularly and or from our trusted contacts in the area. This means there is no need to blindly go to a location hoping to see or do something and be disappointed that you don’t or can’t. Obviously, nothing can be guaranteed, as the weather and situations change, and the animals go where they want to, but having some local knowledge definitely helps in the decision process. We are committed to providing the best service we can to our clients and we will never use hard selling techniques or intentionally misinform you. The choice is always yours and yours alone!
As an example of what a private tailor-made safari can offer, here is the itinerary that Glyn Edmunds used back in August 2012.
Please Note: Being able to see a herd of wildebeest crossing can be down to luck and a long wait. Watching the baby elephants in the late afternoon is for elephant foster parents only, and must be booked in advance with the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. If you already foster an elephant this can be done before you go, alternatively, if you go to a morning session, you can foster an elephant and book an afternoon visit while you are there.
Tailor-made / custom safari tours are available for individuals, couples, families and groups of any size. For groups of 8 or more we can offer the services of a group organiser and or tour guide, who can accompany you from the UK.
For advice or a quotation, please email us with your questions and or list of places you’d like to go, what you would like to see and or do, and when you would like to visit and for how long, along with any information you feel is relevant. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
For a safari you’ll never forget and experiences that will last a lifetime, safari your way with a tailor-made / custom safari.
