Day 4 - Serengeti National Park

Your day will be spent at Serengeti, enjoying a full day game viewing drive with meals being taken in the true safari style ‘in the vast and sensational Serengeti’, which covers 14,763 sq km of endlessly rolling savannah.  Venue for ‘the greatest wildlife show on Earth’, the annual migration of over one million wildebeest.  The park is also renowned for its lions, cheetahs, zebras, giraffes and plains game.

Day 5 - Serengeti National Park / Ngorongoro Conservation Area

This morning after breakfast drive to the famous Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area (NCCA), which features rolling plains, lakes, craters, mountains and dormant volcanoes. Journey up the side of the vast Ngorongoro Crater, a World Heritage Site, which is one of the largest volcanic craters in the world (almost 20 kilometres wide, 610-760 metres deep and covering a total area of 264 sq km).

Arrive at Ngorongoro Sopa in time for relaxation.  If you wish you can visit a Masai village at a nominal fee.  Your lodge is perched on the rim of the collapsed volcano, the Ngorongoro Crater, often referred to as the “eighth wonder of the world”.  It has the most magnificent views over the crater floor, which is home to vast herds of buffalo, wildebeest, zebra, the rare and endangered black rhino, elephant, cheetah, leopard, lion and herds of gazelle and wildebeest.

Its position on the Eastern rim allows the most spectacular and uninterrupted views of the sunset.

Day 6 - Ngorongoro Conservation Area

Today after breakfast, you will descend into the “8th Wonder of the World”, a unique biosphere that has remained virtually unchanged since the dawn of time.  Enclosed within its towering walls are grasslands, swamps, forests, saltpans, a freshwater lake and a glorious variety of birdlife.  Here too are all the members of the “Big Five” (lion, elephant, rhino, leopard and buffalo), as well as a large cast of plains game and one of Africa’s densest populations of predators.  Enjoy a picnic lunch on the crater floor before climbing back up to the lodge in time for relaxation before dinner.

Overnight: Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge - Meal Plan: Full Board

Day 7 - Ngorongoro Conservation Area / Tarangire National Park

This morning depart for Tarangire National Park, which is Tanzania’s best-kept secret on the northern safari circuit.  Named after a nearby river called Tarangire, it has the same attractions as the parks “up-north”, the only difference is that this park is not usually as crowded as the others.

Following lunch and check in, depart for an afternoon game viewing drive in the park returning later as the sun sets.

This is a year-round park with distinct seasons offering different experiences, from dusty, dry and baking, with animals clustered around the rapidly reducing river, to the fecund green season full of new-born animals and chattering birds.

Overnight: Tarangire Sopa Lodge - Meal Plan: Full Board
